Message from the Director of Independent Living
The Office of Independent Living helps provide a broad-based spectrum of services to youth and young adults in foster care, or who have aged out of foster care, to help them have a successful transition to adulthood. Youth have an active voice in program design, policy making and practice standards. Federal grants and state funds support educational attainment, basic needs such as housing support and staff allocation, and programs that help youth and young adults become proficient in adult living skills. Because no two people are alike, program decisions are made on a case-by-case basis to fully consider each young person’s needs and abilities.
We are proud of the young people who receive our services and are impressed by their resilience and achievements. Our vision is to see young adults who were in the foster care system achieve lifelong success.
