Colonel Tracy Trott of the Tennessee Highway Patrol announced Saturday evening the loss of a state trooper who was killed on duty Saturday in a traffic accident.
Trooper Andy Wall, 36, died shortly after being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Trooper Wall and Trooper Buddy Head were riding their THP motorcycles on Sam Ridley Parkway in front of Stonecrest Hospital in Smyrna. The two motor patrol units were escorting U.S. Air Force Thunderbird pilots to an air show. Just before 2:00 p.m., a crash occurred involving three vehicles and the two state troopers. Both Trooper Wall and Trooper Head were injured in the accident. No civilians were injured in the crash. The accident remains under investigation and no further information is available for release at this time.
Trooper Wall was assigned to the THP Nashville District and worked primarily out of Dickson County with the Motorcycle Unit. He graduated from the THP Training Academy in 2004. His father, Tom Wall, is a former sheriff of Dickson County. Trooper Wall leaves his parents, a sister, and girlfriend. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11 at the Taylor Funeral Home on 214 Main Street in Dickson, Tennessee, and from 10 a.m. to Noon on Thursday, May 12 at Walnut Street Church of Christ located at 201 Center Avenue in Dickson.
The memorial service is scheduled to start at Noon on Thursday at Walnut Street Church of Christ. Immediately following, Trooper Wall will be laid to rest at Cumberland Furnace Cemetery at 5297 Highway 48N in Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee. The Tennessee Highway Patrol along with various law enforcement agencies will serve as active pallbearers. The THP Honor Guard will provide full honors.
