License Requirements

 

How to obtain - Apprentice | Auctioneer | Firm | Gallery | Branch - Licenses.

Requirements for Apprentice Auctioneer License:

  • The following steps must be taken in order to obtain an Apprentice license:
  1. Complete an 80 hour approved auction education program.
  2. Retain a copy of the application for your records.
    Complete and Submit to Testing Facility (PSI):
    1. Application for Apprentice License.
    2. 80 hour qualifying education certificate
    3. Submit Payment of License Fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission
  3. After receiving notice that you have successfully completed the Apprentice exam, remit the appropriate fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission for issuance of your Apprentice License. You may begin your apprenticeship upon receipt of your license.

Requirements for Auctioneer License:

  • The following steps must be taken in order to obtain an Auctioneer license:
  1. You must have successfully completed an apprenticeship of at least 2 years under the supervision of a licensed Tennessee Auctioneer.
  2. Complete a 30 hour approved auction education program.
  3. Retain a copy of the application for your records.
    Complete and Submit to Testing Facility (PSI):
    1. Application for Auctioneer License
    2. 30 hour qualifying education certificate
    3. Completed Apprentice Log
    4. Copy of High School or GED Certificate
    5. Submit Payment of License Fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission

    After receiving notice that you have successfully completed the Auctioneer exam, remit the appropriate fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission for issuance of your Auctioneer License. You may begin practicing as an Auctioneer upon receipt of your license and proper affiliation with a licensed auction firm.

Requirements for Firm License:

  • The following steps must be taken in order to obtain an Firm license:

Licensure for an auction firm of which a Tennessee licensed auctioneer has ownership

  1. Complete Application for Firm License.
  2. Complete Escrow Account Form. (To be completed by bank).
  3. Submit Payment of License Fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission.

Licensure for an auction firm of which the ownership does not include a Tennessee licensed auctioneer. (Firm must maintain a principal auctioneer.)

  1. Retain a copy of the application for your records.
    Complete and Submit to Testing Facility (PSI)
    1. Application for Firm License
    2. Escrow Account Form. (To be completed by bank)
    3. 30 hour qualifying education certificate
    4. Firm Owner's High School Diploma or GED
  2. Submit Payment of License Fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission .

Requirements for Gallery License:

  • Licensure for a Gallery License. (Must Employ a Tennessee licensed auctioneer but not requiring a principal auctioneer.)
  1. Complete and Submit to Testing Facility (PSI)
    1. Application for Gallery License
    2. Escrow Account Form. (To be completed by bank)30 hour qualifying education certificate
  2. Submit Testing Fees to the Testing facility (PSI) - at time of examination
  3. Submit Payment of License Fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission .

Requirements for Branch License (Either Firm or Gallery):

  • Must have same name as principal firm or gallery:
  1. Complete and Submit to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission
    1. Application for Branch (Either Firm or Gallery)
  2. Submit Payment of License Fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission .

Requirements for Public Automobile Auctioneer License

  • You must currently be a licensed Auctioneer to apply for a license as a Public Automobile Auctioneer License.
  • The following steps must be taken in order to obtain a Public Autmobile Auctioneer License:
  1. Complete and submit an application to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission
  2. Submit Proof of 30 hours of qualifying education for Public Automobile Auctioneer License
  3. Submit payment of license fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission.

Requirements for Public Automobile Auction License

You must hold a Motor Vehicle Dealer License with the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission to apply for a license as a Public Automobile Auction and must have a business telephone in the auction company name (cellular telephones are not acceptable).

The following steps must be taken in order to obtain a Public Automobile Auction License:

  1. Complete and submit an application to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission
  2. Submit proof of Motor Vehicle Dealer License
  3. Submit Letter of Compliance from the zoning authority
  4. Submit proof of Garage Keepers Legal Liability Insurance in the amount of not less than $500,000.00
  5. Submit Surety Bond in the amount of $50,000.00 issued by a licensed bonding company
  6. Submit a compiled financial statement prepared by a CPA or a public accountant dated not earlier than 12 months prior to the date of application (must indicate a minimum net worth of at least $100,000.00
  7. Submit proof of business tax license required by local applicable law
  8. Submit payment of license fees to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission
