Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant
SPF-SIG is a five year project that has brought a new focus to the Tennessee prevention system by providing resources for state government and communities to effectively partner to strengthen prevention efforts in Tennessee. This has been achieved by providing resources to establish and further develop 45 community anti-drug coalitions.
The primary focus of SPF-SIG is to prevent the onset and reduce the progression of substance use and abuse, reduce substance-related consequences and enhance the prevention infrastructure and service delivery system throughout the State. This project has provided the framework for this partnership to (1) assess and prioritize need, (2) build prevention capacity, (3) organize and strategically plan, (4) coordinate the implementation of evidence based environmental strategies, and (5) evaluate effectiveness. Through this project, coalitions have worked to affect community norms and beliefs regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs, limit access to substances, change the culture and context within which decisions about substances are made, reduce the prevalence of negative consequences associated with substances, and become an integral part of Tennessee’s prevention system.
