In January, claimants will have the choice of either a debit card or direct deposit.
Claimants wanting to choose direct deposit would need to do so online, as it will not be an option for claimant filing by telephone or at local career centers. To make this change, claimants would go to https://ui.tn.gov, then click on the View/Update Payment Type and follow the step by step prompts. Existing claimants can access this website also and choose either direct deposit or debit card as their method of receiving benefits. New telephone claimants will be defaulted to debit cards as of 01/18/2011.
Your debit card will arrive in the mail within 7 to 10 business days in an envelope with a return address of State of Tennessee, P.O. Box 9044, Copell, TX 75019. Please open immediately and follow the activation instructions inside. You will need to contact Chase at 1-866-429-9835 to activate your card and you will also be prompted to set up a four digit PIN number. Do not share your PIN number or TAP card with anyone. If you forget or have problems with your PIN, please contact Chase Customer Service immediately. After three incorrect attempts, you will suspend access to your card until after midnight. If you lose your card or do not receive your card within 7 to 10 business days, please contact Chase Customer Service and request a replacement card to be sent to you, this will be at no cost to you.
If your claim is approved, your benefits will be deposited within 48 hours of the first payable week approved by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Please remember to continue to certify for benefits weekly; failure to do so will result in benefits not being added to your card.
There are some fees that can be incurred with this card. Visit the TAP fee information page to learn more about fees and what you can do to avoid both fees and surcharges. (http://www.tn.gov/labor-wfd/uidebitcard/fee_information.html)
You can use your debit card anywhere that accepts the Visa card, however, when making purchases, please remember to use it as a credit card. You may not use your card for PAY AT THE PUMP.
If you wish to check your balance you may contact Chase up to four times a month, after that it will charge a fee of $.25 a call. You may access your account information for free at www.myaccount.chase.com. Please make sure funds are available before trying to use your card so no fees are incurred
