The TAP Debit Card

Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits
can now be received by debit card or
direct deposit. The Tennessee Automated Payment (TAP) Card is a Visa® debit card provided by Chase Bank.

A TAP debit card provides an easy, convenient and secure way to receive
your Unemployment Insurance benefit payments. 

TAP Cards are mailed within 7-10 business days from the date your new claim is filed.  If you do not receive a TAP Card, contact Chase Customer Service at 1-866-429-9835. Claimants currently receiving benefits can also enroll for debit cards or direct deposit payments online at In the future, all claimants will receive their unemployment benefits electronically.

Your TAP Card will arrive from Chase in a plain, white, window envelope. Do not throw away this envelope without removing its contents. Once a TAP Card is issued, it is valid for two years. Keep your TAP Card until the expiration date for payments on potential future benefit claims.

As a general practice, do not give out any information about your account number, expiration date, or account balance to anyone who calls you on the telephone. Protect your TAP Card as you would credit cards or cash. Never give your UI or TAP Card personal identification number (PIN) to anyone. As soon as your TAP Card is received, sign it and call Chase Customer Service at 1-866-429-9835 (toll free) to activate your card and to select a TAP Card PIN. Carefully read all of the information below:
