The Tennessee Department of Education created Teach Tennessee as a licensure program that streamlines the process to become a teacher. With this program, working professionals and recent college graduates can turn their college degrees and professional work experience into a rewarding teaching career in the high-need subject areas of math, science or foreign language.
Teach Tennessee began in 2005 with the goal of creating an effective entry-point for mid-career professionals with math and science expertise to join the teaching profession. It is designed to get teachers in the classroom in hard-to-fill areas of math, science and foreign language for Tennessee’s middle and high school grades 7-12. The Teach Tennessee program seeks individual who are dedicated, motivated and have a desire to help students in Tennessee prepare for college or careers.
Since the program inception, over 300 fellows have received their Tennessee teacher’s license and we maintain an 83% retention rate. By making the transition process quicker and more manageable, experts in fields such as biology, chemistry, physics and engineering are finding a more rewarding and fulfilling career in education.
