Citizens' Correctional Academy

The Tennessee Department of Correction Citizens' Correctional Academy is a four week/six session seminar designed to provide local citizens with an in-depth look at corrections and our efforts to enhance public safety. The academy gives Tennesseans the opportunity to learn about the departments' mission, operations and positive impact on the community.

A total of four (4) classes will be held one night per week from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. every Tuesday night in Nashville. One session will be held on a Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution range. A graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Who can attend?
- TDOC Citizens' Academy is open to Tennessee residents. TDOC employees and their family members are not eligible.

What are the requirements?
- You must be 21 years of age or older.
- No criminal history other than minor traffic violations.
- Must be able to attend all six (6) sessions.
- Must complete, sign and return all required forms, waivers and agreements.
Where will the academy be held?

- Various TDOC locations in the Nashville area.

When are the sessions?

- May 5 through 26, 2015 on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. (Classes)
- Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. (Range)
- Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. (Graduation)

Due to classroom size, the academy will be limited to 15 citizens. To apply, please complete the application and submit it by email to TDOC.Communications@tn.gov by Friday, March 27, 2015. All applicants will undergo a background check.
