Tennessee Healthy Hardwoods

thh logoForest Health is an issue that affects all. A healthy forest is one that supports sustainability – assuring that the uses of the forest today will not hinder the uses of the forest tomorrow. A healthy forest offers diversity in species and their age class, ensures clean water and air, supports diverse wildlife, all while providing the other beneficent uses that society values.

The 2013 Tennessee Healthy Hardwoods Program will address the following issues:

  • Options for treating degraded hardwood stands
  • Keeping a pulse on forest pests in Tennessee
  • Managing forest habitat for healthy wildlife
  • Forest inventory: healthy forests begin with an inventory
  • and more.

A combination of webinars and field days will address these issues beginning in February and running through April and will have a statewide reach.

Webinars: Two webinars will provide instruction on two of these issues - treating degraded stands and a forest pest update. Live participation is encouraged so participants can ask questions and the presenters can receive feedback. However, each webinar will be archived on this page for later viewing.

Field Days: Four professionally implemented field days will take place over the coarse of two weeks in April. Each will provide the same indoor presentations addressing the issues above, but will also include outdoor sessions where localized information relative to forest health will be presented.
